Doctor's Guide to the Internet
The highlight of this site is its dozens of sections devoted to specific conditions
and illnesses. Most sections have dozens of news articles, in addition to
links to related newsgroups and Web sites.
Hardin Meta Directory of Internet Health Sources
Hardin is a meta directory a list of directories about three dozen health
subjects, ranging from allergy to toxicology. For each subject, there are typically
links to ten to twenty directories, which in turn link to hundreds of related
Web sites, mailing lists, and newsgroups.
HealthAtoZ
HealthAtoZ is a great search engine that provides links to thousands of health-related
Internet sites, mailing lists, and newsgroups. If you prefer to browse instead
of search, the database entries are broken out into dozens of directories.
Healthfinder
Healthfinder provides links to hundreds of federal government health publications
and to hundreds of consumer health sites on the Internet. All of the sites
have been evaluated for quality by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services.
HealthWeb
This great site was created by medical librarians at universities throughout
the Midwest. It has links to thousands of health-related Web sites, mailing
lists, and newsgroups, and each resource was evaluated before being included.
Internet Grateful Med
This wonderful site provides free access to MEDLINE, a huge database created
by the National Library of Medicine that has bibliographic information for
nearly nine million medical articles published from 1966 to the present. The
site also provides access to ten other useful databases developed by the National
Library of Medicine.
Mayo Clinic Health Oasis
The Mayo Clinic operates this site, which has thousands of articles about
virtually every medical topic under the sun. The site is especially strong
in the areas of diet and nutrition, pregnancy and child health, cancer, heart
wellness, and women's health.
Medical Matrix
Medical Matrix provides annotated, ranked listings for thousands of health-related
Internet sites. Most of the listings are categorized by disease. The site
also offers sections about clinical trials, major journals, MEDLINE, health
care policy, and lots of other topics.
Medical World Search
The powerful search engine at this site hunts through health-related sites that
have been chosen for their quality. The focused nature of the search makes this
engine a far better choice for finding health information than general search
engines such as AltaVista or Infoseek.
OncoLink
If you're seeking information about cancer, OncoLink is the place to start
your search. Through its files and links to other sites, OncoLink presents
a huge array of information about just about every aspect of cancer, from
new treatments to insurance issues. One of OncoLink's highlights is its menus
devoted to specific types of cancer.
